6 Days with Luke and Lucas

So I went to Houston last Thursday and just got back late last night or rather Wednesday early morning. I so enjoy seeing my children with their children and seeing Luke “father” Lucas was no exception. Bianca was in Europe so Luke was single-parenting and what a smash-up job he does with that role. He’s very organized with Lucas’s schedule and very intent that Lucas eats very nutritious meals, many of them/most of them homemade by Luke. And Luke is systematic in keeping Lucas in cloth diapers and manages the laundry of them so well. Luke would probably say that he could do more in keeping the house in order, but I think his priorities are just where they need to be…tending to Lucas and playing with Lucas and hugging and loving Lucas. There will be time for all the projects Luke wants to take on in his home in the future, but I know that he knows that the “present” with Lucas goes by so fast.

Lucas is a very happy child and very curious and smart. He learns things so quickly. He tries to answer the funny faces I make with him with his own. He loves music and dances when he hears it. I think he’s identified his favorite toys as the ones he can push, walk with, and dance to. The most wonderful part of the stay this time was seeing Lucas beginning to walk. He’d taken a few steps prior to my visit, but he’s a full-fledged walker now. So cute and so fun to see those little legs move across the room, with his arms in front, balancing the lower part of his body. He just knows what to do to keep himself stable.

I had dinner with Bobbie and Dalia Saturday night while Luke had a “guys movie night” and I shopped at Christmas Rocks for gnomes this year. I came back with a box full of them. Fun, good times!

Finally, Maybre is just the best dog ever. He’s very patient with Lucas climbing all over him, and also Lucas’s fascination with his eyes as he wants to feel how they feel with his pointer finger. That’s when Lucas hears strongly the word “NO” from anyone that is nearby.

I treasure these times.
